Experience Description

Today, we invite you to immerse yourself in the local culture with a walk into the life of the Khmer people – an insider’s look at the intriguing culture and flavors Siem Reap has to offer.

Led by an experienced tour guide who is happy to share his passion and knowledge of the country’s delicacies and beliefs, this mixed cultural and gastronomic tour certainly gives you a real insight into the colorful lives of the Khmer people and ensures a sense of local authentic experience for travelers.

Pick up from your hotel by Remork “Tuk Tuk” and head to the Royal Independence Gardens to visit the Shrine to Preah Ang Chek Preah Ang Chorm, the statues of 2 famous sisters in traditional Theravada Buddhist robes believed to be the 2 protectors of Siem Reap and one of the most sacred places in Siem Reap where Khmer people come to pray. As your tour guide explains its legend, you also have a chance to see thousands of bats hanging on the tree behind the shrine during the daytime, a rare phenomenon.

Then walk along the Siem Reap River to visit Wat Bo, one of the oldest pagodas in Siem Reap, which has several well-preserved wall paintings from the 19th century. Some of the murals describe the love story of Rama and Shita, the strongest man and the most beautiful woman of all time, which is famous throughout Southeast Asia. As this is a Hindu story, the images are considered particularly remarkable in a Buddhist temple. Take this opportunity to be more connected to Khmer culture and also practice the spirit of giving philosophy, meet and offer alms to a Buddhist monk followed by receiving a spiritual blessing through the mystic chants of the Buddhist monk. It is a refreshing ceremony of spirit cleansing bringing well-being, happiness, and good luck!

Take a 15-minute walk across a pedestrian bridge to the Old Market where your street food adventure begins. You are now well prepared to immerse yourself in the stimulating market for the Siem Reap locals with bountiful seasonal fruits, vegetables, bugs (yes, bugs!), and more. Taste Khmer delicacies while standing at street stalls and you can try as much local food and seasonal fruits available in the market under coordination and explanation from your tour guide.

As evening comes, it’s an exciting time to experience the nightlife as locals do at a typical Khmer restaurant where typical Khmer food and snacks are served with plenty of local beer – feast on all-you-can-eat food and free-flowing drinks. Finally, transfer back to your hotel by Remork “Tuk Tuk”.
